Rise Up

Whilst sitting in the studio one summer evening Jo came across a page of Rick’s lyrics that she liked about reflecting on life and the situation of becoming the ‘older shoulders’ with a perspective of lived experience. After playing around on the guitar, Jo found a melody that slotted easily into place and the song was quickly born.

Lyrics

I miss those older shoulders
On which I used to lean
And gather up the wisdom sited in between
It wasn’t always perfect or even in size
But helped to counterbalance the falsehoods and lies

And maybe inspiration would be nurtured in my heart
Amongst the thoughts such people were willing to impart
Not all of the people, but the ones I could expect
To offer me their insights and gain my respect

And now those older shoulders are embodied in my frame
I’m wondering if such learning could be passed on just the same
Will there be occasion to share my insights
Doubts or misgivings and a dose of full, clear light

Rise up mind and body and carry the load
There’s many more miles to go on this road
Rise up mind and body and keep them well honed
Sharpened yet softened, well mixed and well-toned

Rise up mind and body and carry the load
There’s many more miles to go on this road
Rise up mind and body and keep them well honed
Sharpened yet softened, well mixed and well-toned

Rise up mind and body
Rise up mind and body
Rise up mind and body
Rise up mind and body
Carry, carry, carry, the load
Carry, carry, carry the load
Rise up, rise up, rise up, rise up, rise up
